It’s Monday. No one likes Monday. However, despite the post weekend blues, it’s the perfect time to rethink your health and start mproving your diet. We have all indulged a little over the Easter weekend so why not get back on track TODAY. Change requires structure and I think that’s why diets are best initiated on a Monday, because it’s when we start from scratch. Clear out the toxins from all the naughty things you consumed over the weekend and load up of cleansing foods! You will feel better for it.

#EWC LITTLE LIST OF AWESOME-NESS (my favorite foods that aim to increase immune function, cleanse the body and aid weightloss)

  • Garlic: What a magnificent spice, particularly for clearing out toxins and improving digestion. Garlic is known for stimulating circulation, controlling blood pressure and reducing hypertension. It’s so easy to add to meals too! Just one teaspoon should send your stomach to heaven.

  • Coconut Oil: I recently made the switch to coconut oil, not only because it's a sustainable food source, but because the health benefits are second to none. It's high in natural saturated fats which increase the healthy cholesterol (known as HDL) in your body. It also helps to convert the LDL “bad” cholesterol into good cholesterols. By Increasing the HDL's in the body, it helps promote heart health, and lower the risk of heart disease.

  • Lemons: Jam packed with vitamin C, lemons are the perfect addition to meal time as it not only clears toxins, but flushes them away! Perfect for relief from nausea, bloating, heartburn and constipation this little wonder is amazing for reducing those hangovers. Drizzle fresh lemon juice on salads instead of those sugary, artificial salad dressings.

  • Mushrooms: Mushrooms are one of the biggest vegetables to aid weightless because of its few calories and ability to fill the stomach quickly. This veg is full of vitamin B12 and fibre, reducing cholesterol and blood glucose and generally improving immune function.

  • Broccoli: Broccoli provides a high amount of vitamin C which aids iron absorption in the body and helps the immune system to fight against common colds. Numerous vitamins and minerals make up this super vegetable making it one of the most advantageous foods when it comes to weightless and cleansing.

  • Grapefruit: Grapefruit is high in enzymes that burn fats, has high water content and has less sodium. A combination of these three characteristics make grapefruit a perfect food for increasing your body’s metabolism. Grapefruit contains essential elements such as iron, calcium, potassium, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, folic acid and B vitamins … Need I say more?

  • Millet: This ancient grain is an alkaline and therefore is very easy to digest. It is a colon cleanser and pre-biotic so your gut will love it. Millet is low GI meaning it is slow burning. It also help reduce muscle tension so it's a great food post workout. Millet is a winner on the carbohydrate list for me - switch your rice for millet every now and then!

  • Beetroot: You have probably treated yourself to a few cheeky drinks of the course of the weekend and it's time to give that liver a cleanse too. Beetroots are extremely high in plant-flavonoids and beta-carotene; eating beets can stimulate and support overall liver function.

Keep your foods as close to their natural form as possible … The more natural the better.

It's Monday... and that's AWESOME
